Med prices go up
Insurance companies are raising the prices they charge for "certain high-priced drugs":
This cuts to the root of the health care debate. Should someone go bankrupt because they're sick? Or should the government use the bargaining power of the whole population to spread costs and risks and help people who can't afford expensive drugs live anyway? I'm in the latter camp, I think most people are now, and the insurance companies are really stupid for doing this.Insurers say the new system keeps everyone’s premiums down at a time when some of the most innovative and promising new treatments for conditions like cancer and rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis can cost $100,000 and more a year.
But the result is that patients may have to spend more for a drug than they pay for their mortgages, more, in some cases, than their monthly incomes.
